Energy Performance Certificates

An EPC rates how energy efficient a property is, and is a legal requirement before your property is marketed for sale or to rent.

An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) shows a prospective buyer or tenant information about a property’s energy use and typical energy costs, as well as giving recommendations on how to reduce energy use and save money.

It is a legal requirement to arrange an EPC before your house is put on the market for sale or to rent. All new build properties must also be marketed with an EPC.

An EPC can be carried out by any accredited assessor. When you instruct House of Properties to market your property, we can arrange your EPC for you as part of getting your property ready for launch.

An EPC gives a property an energy efficiency rating from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient) and is valid for 10 years. When selling your property or looking to buy, it is useful to compare EPCs — you can view the EPCs of other properties for free, which lets you compare your home’s energy performance with that of similar homes.

You can find an existing energy certificate on the government EPC portal.
